but for now a simple one...... does the bible say that jesus and the apostles went from door to door, house to house?.

Jesus was accused for that sort of stuff - He didn't do what the pharisees wanted and they couldn't help themselves.

The Son of man has come eating and drinking; and you say, `Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.

As for door to door - as Jesus said, "do not go from house to house".

When visiting christians, Paul, however, did go from their house to house, but that's not what the problem is about.

And the keeping people too busy to know - you got that right - people have known that for ages.

WTS reaffirms Salvation only by Works

in the new special assembly day program, the wts once again affirms that "true christians" receive their salvation by their works.

the theme is "be rich in fine works" and starts with the circuit overseer discussing what it means to "exert themselves to acquire spiritual riches".

the bethel speaker's first talk is "fine works in this time of harvest" - encouraging the r&f to "share even more fully'.

Catholics cannonized the Bible, right?

isn't it true that the roman catholic church put together the bible (canonized the books), and decided the order and all that?

if this isn't true set me straight please.. what do the witnesses think about this?

is it (the bible) just as valid if part of "christendom" decided which books of the bible would be included?

Also, did you notice that no matter how good or how bad a translation may be, the KJV translations said that it is still the Word of God. I hold to that as well. Thus, the NWT, no matter how bad you may think that it is, is still the Word of God.

Though it is based on other work, the King James "Version" attempts to address language issues - a "verging" of work, and yes, still a Word of God. There has not been an effort to cloud the roots of the KJV, as there is with the New World "Translation" - carried across from another language (not) - and I don't know whose word that is.

Thus, the NWT contains a lie in its very name - NWA, the "New World Alteration" would be a more appropriate definition.

The writers of the bible & Jesus

more than 20 years ago, before i baptised, i reached the conclusion that the words of the bible are not inspired by god but only the global ideas.

the reason why i reached that conclusion is based on hebrews 6:18 "through to unchageable things in which it is imposible for god to lie" and the title of a famous book written by the jw.

the idea i developed was the following: if there are things in which is impossible for god to lie ,then, by extension there are things in which is possible for god to lie, which is not proper for an ethically perfect god.

JW's DO eat Blood

why is it that jw's are so big on this no blood thing, yet still eat blood in their meat?

the dubs i know claim to "cook out" the blood, but this in no way meets biblical standards.

in fact the way meat is slaughtered doesn't come close to meeting kosher requirements in the bible.

They don't really want to be seen to do anything physical that's like someone else's religion. And, deaths do provide them with the proof of zealousy that many people require for their own proof - hence, sacrifice becomes more important than kindness, more important than anything.

i have not been a very active poster lately [have you missed me?].

there has been plenty of drama in my life the last few weeks, and my time has been absorbed by it.

my grandma is seriously ill, and has but a few more months to live.

I do belive that you should care less what They think.

If they ask you to move, don't. If they refuse to start, just sit there. They won't want a scene, and whatever you do - don't back down - never - no quarter - none whatsoever. It's not right that you should in a way accomodate them.

If they lay a hand on you, well, I'm sure you know what to do with that one. Just sit there - I really don't think that they're going to call the police - do you?

Yeah, I can see that. People have really been coming out of an isolation in the information age. Hopefully, the information will continue to be so expansive that the 'one way street' will simply be overwhelmed, and the 'captive' audience will tear down the wall. Either that or the shouts from outside will collapse it.

Do you think that some Ex-Jw's

do you think that some ex-jw's still hold to the type of thinking of active jw's.

in that they like to argue every single point out to the point that the other side does not even care anymore, and wonders why anyone even took it that far.

i am not quoting any exact example, but i have been on enough sites to know that there always seems to be a few who like to do this on all sites.

As a non-jw (not jw or ex) I haven't really noticed that strongly coming through, but I have noticed that 'altered' jws are still willing to put forward tripe from the storehouse before they give up - not a noticable behaviour with the exes.

One thing I do notice with many ex-jws is that sometimes they will recognise some truth of scripture and then their mind will actively clam up and back away, particularly when a comfort zone is impeached, and perhaps when outer body ideas are considered.

I hope I'm not offending the board members with this criticism, but even ex-jws seem to prefer to keep scriptual understanding at the history / who's who fact level, where everyone has flesh and there will literally be a one thousand year reign coming. Very hard to lift an ex-jw into the spirit realm - if they're still dragging the chain. They've been drummed that anything to do with spirits is 'evil'. I suppose for jws, demons are real people but good spirits are just an "it".
